Dorian Rhodes vs Latoya Hixx
Sometimes there’s a moment in this industry where you step between those ropes with an opponent that stands on your side of the line. We not only see things metaphorically the same but intellectual as well. Each and every time one of us steps into this ring we’re pulling for the other. Just happens in this moment Dorian Rhodes and Latoya Hixx stand on opposite sides.
In this business there’s always that ten pounds of gold that every man or woman in this industry strives to achieve. To have that belt slung over your shoulder or strapped around your waist means you made it. You’re the Champion. The bullseye is on you.
Rhodes sits in his rented vehicle, hands on the steering wheel, mind on the second night of Dead or Alive. The Grand Prix Tournament for the Outlaw Wrestling World Championship. As his phone rings he hits connect and answers on hands free.
“It’s Dorian.”
An unfamiliar voice replies.
“Hey, this is Kayla Reid and I was wondering if you had a few minutes. I have somebody here with the local radio station and their going to be doing a promo for the show.”
Dorian clears his throat as he begins to speak.
“Yeah, I have a few minutes.”
Kayla Reid, “Great, great. So our first question; How do you feel about stepping into the ring with your fellow n.G.s. member?”
Dorian Rhodes, “You know I wanted to start n.G.s. as a tribute to one of my fathers former groups and uphold that tradition. I didn’t expect to have to step into the ring with Latoya this early in Outlaw Wrestling. However, those in charge ended up putting us on the same side of the line in the Grad Prix Tournament. So, here we are preparing to complete against each other.”
Kayla, “I imagine that isn’t going to be easy for the two of you.”
Rhodes, “Honestly, it’s better now than later.”
“Oh, really? Why is that?” She ask with some surprise in her voice.
Rhodes, “We’re still learning about each other. What our ideas and goals are and how we’re going to go about accomplishing them. We’re learning to build that friendship that a sustained group has. Fortunately we’re stepping into the ring without those feelings of friendship or camaraderie.”
Kayla, “Are you afraid that this may put a rift within the group before you’re even ready to get started?”
Dorian begins shaking his head before he realizes his physical reaction to the question.
Rhodes, “No, I don’t think that it will. We’ve talked enough to have a mutual understanding that right now the best thing for n.G.s. is bringing home that championship belt. Putting the name, Next Generation Superstars, out there and getting some respect on it.”
Kayla, “I think that just about does it. Thank you Dorian.”
“I appreciate the call Kayla. I’ll see you at the show I’m sure.”
Dorian presses the end call button and smiles about Kayla.
